Better At Home Program

Better at Home is a program that helps seniors 60+ with simple non-medical, day-to-day tasks so that they can continue to live independently in their own homes, and remain connected to their communities.

Better at Home is funded by the Government of BC and managed by the United Way.  NexusBC Community Resource Centre provide the services for Vernon, Armstrong, Lavington, Lumby and Cherryville.

Services through the North Okanagan Better At Home Program include:

Transportation

We provide you with rides to appointments and for assistance with grocery shopping.

Light housekeeping

A professional housekeeper provides services to help you maintain a clean and healthy household.

Minor Home Repair

A handyman provides minor home repairs to help you maintain a safe home.

Light Yard Work

We help you with light yard work including raking, lawn mowing and weeding.

Friendly Visiting

A volunteer will spend time with you doing activities you enjoy.

In order to receive services, you will need to register with the Better at Home program.  Please note that services may be limited and are subject to availability and funding.

Fees for clients of the Better At Home Program are priced on a sliding scale according to income. You must be age 60+ and residing in Vernon, Armstrong, Lavington, Lumby or Cherryville to be eligible for the program.

We're looking for volunteers!

Better at Home relies heavily on the participation of volunteers.  Positions include driving seniors to appointments or for grocery shopping. Volunteers will receive reimbursement for fuel.  If you have a green thumb or have a knack for fixing things, volunteers are also needed to do yard work and minor home repair. We also have positions available for friendly visitors who would enjoy spending an hour or two a week with a senior.  If you can help with this program, please fill out a Volunteer Application Form (pdf) and phone 250.545.0585 to speak with a Program Coordinator.
